As 2024 draws to a close, Indian cinema continues to shine on the global stage, with Indian celebrities, filmmakers, and films making significant waves across prestigious international platforms.
Payal Kapadia Scores Historic Nominations
Filmmaker Payal Kapadia made history with her nomination in the Best Director (Motion Picture) category for All We Imagine as Light at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards. The film also received a nomination for Best Motion Picture (Non-English Language), marking the first time an Indian director has achieved such recognition.
Reacting to the honor, Kapadia said: “I’m deeply honored by this nomination and grateful to the HFPA for this recognition. This is a celebration of everyone who worked so passionately on the film. To everyone in India, All We Imagine as Light is still in theaters—please go watch it and support us!”
Released on November 22, the film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam. It follows the intertwining journeys of a troubled nurse and her young roommate, exploring themes of desire and self-discovery in a picturesque beach town.
The Indo-French co-production has also earned a Critics’ Choice Awards 2025 nomination.
Anasuya Sengupta First IndianTo Win In Cannes
Anasuya Sengupta etched her name in history by winning the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role as Renuka in The Shameless, directed by Bulgarian filmmaker Konstantin Bojanov. The film competed in the Un Certain Regard section of the 77th edition of the festival.
Accepting the award, Sengupta said:
“This is for the queer community everywhere and all marginalized communities bravely fighting a fight they shouldn’t have to fight.”
The festival also featured a special screening of Shyam Benegal’s classic Manthan, commemorating 48 years since its release.

Ricky Kej Grammy Nom
Renowned Indian musician Ricky Kej has secured his fourth Grammy nomination for his album Break of Dawn, competing in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category.
“This album reflects my belief in music as a transformative force for the planet and our people,” Kej said.
The category also features works by Indian-origin artists Anoushka Shankar, Radhika Vekaria, and Chandrika Tandon.
Guneet Monga At Oscars 2025
Guneet Monga’s Anuja, which highlights child labor in the garment industry, has been shortlisted for the Best Live-Action Short Film category at the 97th Academy Awards. This marks Monga’s third Oscar recognition, following her wins for The Elephant Whisperers and Period: End of Sentence.
Another strong contender in the Oscars race is Sandhya Suri’s Santosh, a British-Indian film featuring Shahana Goswami, which premiered at Cannes. (ANI)
