Why Sukhwinder Singh Continues Practicing ‘Dard-E-Disco’ Years Later
MUMBAI- Singer Sukhwinder Singh has revealed why he continues to practice the opening alaap of the hit song ‘Dard-E-Disco’ from the 2007 Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Om Shanti Om’ before performing it on stage.
On ‘Indian Idol’, Sukhwinder recalled that ‘Dard-E-Disco’ was the first song he sang that was completely based on a classical raag while also being an energetic dance number.
“Then I realized that, for the first time, I was singing a song that was entirely based on a classical raag, yet it was also a dance number with a brilliant arrangement, and that song was ‘Dard-E-Disco’,” he said.
Sukhwinder said the song’s melody and rhythm gave him a spiritual feeling while performing it.
Explaining why he still rehearses the song before performing it live, he said, “Even today, whenever I perform the song on stage, I make sure to practice the opening alaap properly and stay true to the raag from which it originated.” (IANS)
