Tata Family’s Journey To Be Told In New OTT Series
MUMBAI-The upcoming streaming series ‘The Tatas’ is set to tell the story of one of India’s oldest business families and its role in shaping the nation’s industrial and social development.
Envisioned as a multi-season drama, the series is adapted from journalist and author Girish Kuber’s book, ‘The Tatas: How a Family Built a Business and a Nation’. It will chronicle the evolution of the Tata family across four generations, exploring how its corporate vision, industrial achievements and philanthropic institutions became closely intertwined with the making of modern India. The first chapter focuses on founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, whose vision laid the foundation for India’s heavy industry, luxury hospitality and scientific research. The second generation centers on Sir Dorabji Tata, Sir Ratan Tata and Lady Meherbai Tata, highlighting the establishment of Tata Steel, Tata Hydro-Electric Power and the Tata Trusts, which helped institutionalize philanthropy in India. The third generation follows J.R.D. Tata’s contributions to Indian aviation through Tata Airlines (later Air India), as well as the group’s expansion into automobiles and information technology with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).The fourth and final chapter chronicles the journey of Ratan Naval Tata, under whose leadership the Tata Group expanded globally through major international acquisitions while strengthening consumer brands such as Titan.Talking about the scale of the series, writer Karan Vyas said, “The deeper I went into the archives of the Tata family, the more I realized that this isn’t merely corporate history; it’s the foundational narrative of modern India. These were individuals who constantly looked past their balance sheets to build institutions that served the collective. Teaming up with Almighty Motion Picture allows us to approach this with the scale it demands, intimate in its human relationships, yet massive in its historical scope.”The series is co-produced by T-Series Films and Almighty Motion Picture and follows the success of ‘Made in India: A Titan Story’.
