Student-Athlete Sarosh Sheth Run Over By Suspected Drunk Driver

COLUMBUS, OH -A 21-year-old Indian-origin Ohio State University student was killed on July 22 after a car struck two pedestrians here. Police have charged the driver with operating a vehicle under the influence as they continue investigating the fatal crash.

The victim was identified as Sarosh Sheth, a neuroscience major at Ohio State University.

said a Ford Mustang entered an intersection against a red light before hitting two pedestrians on the sidewalk. The vehicle then continued into a nearby parking lot, where it came to rest on top of a parked car occupied by another person.

Both pedestrians were taken to a local hospital, where Sheth was pronounced dead. The second pedestrian survived. The occupant of the parked vehicle was reported to be in stable condition. The driver was treated for injuries before being taken into custody.

Authorities have filed a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI), Ohio’s equivalent of driving under the influence. Investigators said alcohol and/or narcotics are believed to have contributed to the crash, although toxicology test results are still pending. They added that additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

Ohio State University confirmed Sheth’s death and said its thoughts were with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Before attending Ohio State, Sheth studied at Warren JFK High School, where he was a varsity soccer player and also served as the kicker for the Eagles football team.

Football coach Damon Buente said former teammates, coaches, teachers, administrators and classmates were devastated by the loss.

“Sarosh Sheth embodied everything it meant to be a Warren JFK Eagle through and through,” Buente said. He said Sheth lived by the values of family, faith, humility, drive, chivalry, service and empathy.
