Cabbie Who Drove New Yorkers Free For 40 Days After 9/11 Earns Harmeet Dhillon’s Praise

NEW YORK, NY- A New York taxi driver’s account of helping people in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks has resurfaced on social media, drawing thousands of reactions as the US marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

The story emerged after Shabbos Kestenbaum shared details of a conversation with his taxi driver, Gurvinder Singh, on social media. Singh, who emigrated from India 35 years ago, told Kestenbaum that he was at the World Trade Center on the morning of the attacks.

What Singh did afterward became the focus of the post. For the next 40 days, he drove New Yorkers who needed rides without charging them, according to Kestenbaum.

As this year’s anniversary approached, Singh asked Kestenbaum to share his message with others: “Love all people, respect all people. God bless you all, and God bless America!”

Harmeet K. Dhillon responded to Kestenbaum’s post, thanking him for sharing Singh’s story and writing about Sikhs who are proud Americans and provide services to their fellow Americans as independent business owners.

Other users echoed the praise. One described Singh as “More American than most Americans,” while another said his story reflected the kind of contribution Americans value from immigrants.
