India Has Officially Bid To Host 2036 Olympics
NEW DELHI (ANI) – India has ambitious plans to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games and to kick off its bid, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had submitted a ‘Letter of Intent’ on October 1 to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission, marking its first formal step in the race to bring the Olympics to India, officials now say.
This submission moves India from the ‘Informal Dialogue’ to the ‘Continuous Dialogue’ stage of the IOC’s host selection process, where the committee will conduct a feasibility study on India’s preparations and potential for hosting the Games.
However, India isn’t alone in the running. IOC President Thomas Bach has noted that over ten countries have shown interest in hosting the 2036 Games. Notable competitors include Saudi Arabia and Qatar, who have invested heavily in sports infrastructure and events, as well as Turkey and Indonesia, each with significant recent experience in hosting international sports events.
Qatar poses a particularly strong challenge, with its advanced facilities and global reputation elevated after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, has signaled a similar determination to establish itself as a global sports hub.
