Raja Krishnamoorthi Pressures Trump To Act On Rising Grocery Prices

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) is urging President Donald Trump to take immediate action to address soaring grocery prices, particularly the sharp rise in egg costs. In a letter sent last week, Krishnamoorthi criticized the administration for failing to deliver on its campaign promise to lower prices, noting that egg prices have already jumped 14%—nearly a dollar per dozen—just three weeks into Trump’s term.

The congressman pointed to the administration’s inaction on avian flu, E. coli, listeria, and salmonella outbreaks, which have contributed to rising food costs. During a recent hearing of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Krishnamoorthi pressed witnesses on why no executive action has been taken to address the issue.

“This is not simply a failed campaign promise; it is a true crisis for everyday Americans whose dollars will no longer stretch as far,” Krishnamoorthi wrote, calling for immediate measures to restore trust in the food system and combat rising costs.

Krishnamoorthi has been vocal about the issue in media appearances on NBC5 Chicago and WGN Chicago, emphasizing the burden on Illinois families. His letter was also featured in Politico Illinois.
