Spiced Chai Horchata

A refreshing twist on a classic, this Spiced Chai Horchata is bursting with flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Basmati rice
  • 2 tbsp raw almonds
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp cardamom seeds
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 3 tbsp dried rose petals (optional)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar, or to taste
  • 4 cups cold water

Preparation

  1. Into a blender, add the Basmati rice, almonds, ground cinnamon, cardamom seeds, cloves, nutmeg, ground ginger, dried rose petals, and sugar.
  2. Add 2 cups of cold water and blend for 40 seconds.
  3. Let this mixture sit in the fridge overnight or for at least 4 hours at room temperature.
  4. When ready to serve, add the remaining 2 cups of cold water and stir well.
  5. Strain the horchata through several layers of cheesecloth or a clean tea towel.
  6. Pour the horchata into a pitcher and add ice to cool. Enjoy!
