SAN JOSE, CA – Silicon Valley investor Asha Jadeja Motwani is urging the Trump administration to move quickly to strengthen U.S.-India relations, framing the moment as a rare geopolitical opening.
Motwani, who pointed out she is the only Indian American “megadonor” to the Republican Party, used a string of posts on X to outline her pitch. She argued that New Delhi’s market access and diplomatic role in global conflicts make it a uniquely valuable partner for Washington.
Motwani recently committed $5 million to launch the Motwani Jadeja Institute for American Studies at OP Jindal Global University in India, a center aimed at deepening research on U.S. policy and society, also said Indian officials should approach her for insight into President Donald Trump’s thinking on tariffs.
“I strongly recommend that the Indian side reach out to me for my opinion on what’s going on in Trump’s mind,” she wrote, adding that she “may not be accurate, but… will be close.”
In her posts, Motwani contrasted India with other Asian nations that maintain trade deals with both China and the European Union. She argued that the U.S. has exclusive access to India’s consumer market and should leverage that position. She also described India as a “peace-builder” in the Russia-Ukraine war and urged Washington to help Prime Minister Narendra Modi withstand any pressure to move closer to Beijing.
“He has been a steadfast friend of the United States… the time to act is now,” she said.
Motwani linked her appeal to Trump’s broader diplomatic track record, pointing to his role in brokering peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. She said his personal style — sitting between the two leaders and holding their hands — signaled that “peace is close to his heart.”
She added that he was working “tirelessly” on Russia-Ukraine peace and even floated the idea of thanking him on behalf of India for his part in easing tensions with Pakistan, noting his authorization for Senators JD Vance and Marco Rubio to speak to both countries.
