Trump Posts US Has “Lost India” To “Deepest, Darkest China”

NEW DELHI- India on September 5 refused to react to President Donald Trump’s latest post on his social media platform. In the post, Trump stated that the US has lost India and Russia to “deepest, darkest China” and wished the three nations a prosperous future. The post was accompanied by a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

When asked about the post during a weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “I have no comments to offer on this post at this time.”

The image and statement from Trump came after the three leaders shared an informal interaction and held bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. A video of them conversing also went viral on social media.

Trump’s remarks on India and Russia follow a pattern of his previous statements on India-US relations. Earlier this week, he once again called the relationship “one-sided for many years,” pointing to what he alleged were high tariffs on American exports.

“India was charging us tremendous tariffs, about the highest in the world… And we therefore weren’t doing much business with India,” Trump had said, arguing that prior administrations had failed to act while India sent goods into the US market. (IANS)

  • There is no one to blame for the shift in alliances among major powers of the world other than the president of the United States. The White House is now a new “Pagal Khana.” Most occupants there need a self-assessment first, before any prescription is written.
