Chhattisgarh Gets Its First Solar Village
DHAMTARI- Nathukonha village in the Dhamtari district has become Chhattisgarh’s first solar-powered village. This achievement is an important step aimed at promoting renewable energy and ensuring electricity access to every household in the remote area.
All 27 tribal families residing in the village, which is surrounded by forests and hills along the banks of the Madamsilli Dam, have been equipped with solar panels under the central and state government subsidy scheme. This initiative now ensures that residents receive free electricity throughout the year.
The villagers, who previously relied on kerosene lamps and a limited grid supply, can now power lights, fans, and small appliances. This transformation greatly improves their quality of life, creating opportunities for education and economic activities with houses now full of bright lights “like never before.”
Village head Akbar Mandavi expressed the community’s appreciation, stating, “It is a matter of great pride for the village to be recognized as a solar village. We are thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making this possible.”
The project’s success is expected to inspire neighboring villages to adopt solar energy, contributing to the state’s and country’s larger goal of clean, green energy and energy independence. (IANS)
