TRENTON, NJ- Priya Jain has been sworn in as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) following unanimous confirmation by the State Senate on March 23. She was nominated by Governor Sherrill on January 19 and had been serving in an acting capacity prior to her confirmation.

As commissioner, Jain oversees the state’s transportation network and serves as chair of NJ Transit, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, and the South Jersey Transportation Authority.

According to NJDOT officials, her focus includes delivering an affordable and reliable transportation system through the use of data and technology.

Jain, a civil and environmental engineer, brings more than three decades of experience in infrastructure and transportation. She most recently served as President of Americas at Mace Consult and previously held senior roles at Atlas, Atkins, and CH2M, where she worked on large-scale infrastructure programs.

Her early career includes work on the ARC Tunnel project, which involved coordination across multiple agencies and large project delivery.

Jain serves on the Board of Directors of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the Northeast Association of State Transportation Officials. She is also an advisory board member for civil engineering at the City College of New York.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in physics from the Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, and a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of New York at Buffalo.
