TAMPA, FL – The AAPI Convention 2026 in Tampa was more than an annual professional gathering – it unfolded as a five day celebration of identity, achievement and community. Held at the JW Marriott and Tampa Marriott Water Street, the event brought together physicians, researchers, cultural performers and community leaders, blending medicine, spirituality and cultural programming.
Outgoing AAPI President Dr. Amit Chakrabarty set the tone for the convention, emphasizing its official status as the national organization’s flagship annual scientific assembly. Leadership transitions were a key focus throughout the event. Dr. Vijay Maurya assumed charge as Chairman of the AAPI Board of Trustees, stressing financial prudence and long-term sustainability. Dr. Meher Medavaram, who assumed charge as AAPI President on July 4, outlined her vision for unity, integrity, inclusion and purpose, while describing Tampa 2026 as a benchmark convention for the organization.
Scientific programming formed the academic backbone of AAPICON 2026, with CME sessions spanning Lifestyle Medicine, Primary Care, Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, Cardiology Updates, Substance Abuse, and the Human Microbiome. Young physicians led sessions alongside MSRF scholars who presented research, while exhibits and product theaters showcased innovation from healthcare partners, reinforcing AAPI’s role in continuing medical education.
Alongside the scientific agenda, the convention carried a strong spiritual and cultural dimension. The event opened with an invocation and bhajans by Dr. Aarti Pandya. A keynote by Didi Krishna of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission focused on compassion and service, while a discourse by Siddhguru Sri Sidheshwar Brahmrishi Guruvar combined philosophy, wellness and mindful living. Daily Heartfulness meditation sessions offered reflective spaces during the convention.

Civic participation featured prominently, with Jane Castor, Mayor of the City of Tampa, presenting keys to the city to Nita Ambani and Dr. Chakrabarty, and declaring July 2 and the July 4 weekend as AAPI Day in Tampa. The convention also featured speakers including Sania Mirza, who spoke on women’s empowerment, and Vivek Oberoi, who shared experiences from rural India and work empowering women.
The CEO Forum brought together healthcare executives and thought leaders to discuss innovation, policy and the future of healthcare delivery. Leadership meetings across the Executive Committee, Board of Trustees and Governing Body underscored organizational continuity, culminating in a ceremonial Presidential Gavel Exchange marking transition of leadership.
A cultural lineup included a nostalgic performance by Kumar Sanu, a high energy concert by Vishal–Shekhar, a Cruise Night on Tampa Bay with DJ Yatin, ghazals by AM, a performance by 11-year-old prodigy Pranysqa Mishra, and standup comedy by Nimesh Patel.
The convention also recognized philanthropy with the presentation of the AAPI Humanitarian Award to Nita Ambani. Keynote speaker Dr. Achyuta Samanta praised AAPI’s global impact, describing it as a bridge between India and the United States guided by the philosophy of “vasudhaiva kutumbakam,” or the world is one family.
