Abhijeet Bhattacharya Opens Up About Rift With SRK

MUMBAI (ANI) – Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, known for lending his voice to some of Shah Rukh Khan’s most iconic songs, such as “Tauba Tumhare Ishare” and “Wo Ladki Jo Sabse Alag Hai” from Baadshah, has opened up about his strained relationship with the superstar. The singer, who became synonymous with SRK’s on-screen charm in the late 1990s and early 2000s, revealed that their rift stemmed from feeling unacknowledged for his contributions.

Abhijeet explained why he eventually stopped collaborating with Khan. “When self-respect is hurt, you feel like saying, ‘Enough is enough.’ I wasn’t singing for him; I was singing for my work. But when I saw that everyone—even a tea vendor on set—was being acknowledged except for the singer, I thought, ‘Why should I be your voice?’” he said.

The singer recounted an instance when he encouraged his contemporaries to demand proper credit but found himself alone in taking a stand. “This didn’t happen just once—it happened in two films. I told them to talk to Farah [Khan] about it, but they wanted me to do it. I said, ‘Why should I? I’ll directly tell SRK: I won’t sing for you unless you acknowledge me,’” he added.

Despite the fallout, Abhijeet clarified that he holds no grudges. “My relationship with SRK isn’t broken, but he’s now such a huge star that he’s no longer just a person—he’s an institution. I don’t expect anything from him. I’m still the same person I was, growing in my own way. There’s no need for apologies. Both of us have egos. Our birthdays are just a day apart, and we’re both Scorpios—but I’m the bigger Scorpio. I don’t need him or his support,” he remarked.

Recently, British pop star Dua Lipa performed a mashup of her song with “Wo Ladki Jo Sabse Alag Hai” during a live concert, sparking widespread interest in India. However, the performance drew criticism from Abhijeet’s son, Jay Bhattacharya, who slammed the singer for not crediting his father.

Abhijeet and SRK’s collaborations remain etched in Bollywood history, with tracks like “Wo Ladki Jo Sabse Alag Hai” and Chalte Chalte’s title song defining an era of musical and cinematic magic.

  • This guy, SR Khan, is nothing but a polished CLOWN. Just look at him. He had made a fool of millions of innocent Hindus just to get his long dirty hands in the shallow pockets of H INDUS.
