Activist Offers Hindu, Sikh Prayer Wearing Keffiyeh At DNC Closing

CHICAGO, IL – On the third day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Tahil Sharma who was not listed in the lineup put in an appearance, closing the day with a display of religious pluralism.

Wearing a keffiyeh, Sharma joined Rev. William Emmanuel Hall of St. James Church on stage, offering prayers in Hindu and Sikh traditions.

His website says Sharma is a Los Angeles-based activist and describes him as “an interfaith and social justice activist,” dedicated to promoting religious pluralism.

It also said he is the Regional Coordinator for North America at the United Religions Initiative, Sharma serves as an Interfaith Minister in Residence for the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. He is also a Board Member for Sadhana: A Coalition of Progressive Hindus and a member of the Racial Justice & Religion Collective at the Aspen Institute’s Religion & Society Program.

Sunita Vishwanathan co-founder of the Hindus for Human Rights tweeted, “Incredibly proud of my friend and @SadhanaHindus colleague Tahil Sharma,

@InterfaithMan, for bringing Hindu and Sikh prayers to the #DNC and wearing a keffiyeh to express his love and solidarity with Palestine.”
