HOUSTON, TX- A major new primary care initiative is coming to Sugar Land, Texas, following a $5.5 million donation from Brij and Sunita Agrawal. CommonSpirit Health Philanthropy, which announced the gift, confirmed that this is the largest single donation in the history of St. Luke’s Health-Sugar Land Hospital.

The funds are dedicated to two goals: expanding existing clinical services and opening an adjacent Primary Care Community Clinic in the suburban town of Sugar Land, within the Greater Houston area. According to hospital officials, this clinic is designed to address the rising demand for preventive care in the rapidly growing region, providing a reliable point of contact for patients to manage chronic health issues and reduce reliance on emergency hospital visits. In recognition of this investment, the hospital has renamed its main patient tower and pavilion the Agrawal Family Patient Tower and Pavilion.

The couple’s commitment to the region is long-standing. Brij Agrawal, a native of Chhattisgarh, India, moved to the Houston area as a teenager. He is a 1988 graduate of the University of Houston’s Cullen College of Engineering. Beyond his engineering background, he has built a diverse business career and currently serves as the President and CEO of the VKC Group, which operates more than 150 restaurants across Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico.

Prior to this healthcare gift, the Agrawals contributed $1 million to the University of Houston at Sugar Land to support state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and advanced manufacturing research; the university’s ground-floor auditorium is now named in their honor. They have also previously supported medical initiatives at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.

Reflecting on their motivation for the latest donation, Sunita Agrawal told the PTI that the gift is a gesture of appreciation for the community that supported their personal and professional growth. “We have been blessed by this community and wanted to give back in a meaningful way,” she stated.
