WASHINGTON, DC – The American Sikh Caucus Committee, the American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, and the Sikh Coordination Committee East Coast issued an urgent appeal to President Donald Trump on February 11, urging him to take action against foreign governments that intimidate and threaten Americans on U.S. soil, particularly Sikh Americans facing pressure from India.

“We are tax-paying Americans who want all Americans safe on American soil. No foreign government should be allowed to invade our country and intimidate our citizens,” said Pritpal Singh, Founder of the American Sikh Caucus Committee said in a press release. “We bleed red and back the blue, but right now, our community is being targeted. We need action.”

The appeal comes as President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi meet for the first time under the current administration.

“The message is clear,” said Himmat Singh of the SCCEC in  a statement,  “India needs to stop threatening Americans, whether directly, as seen in the foiled plot involving Nikhil Gupta, or indirectly through rhetoric from non-governmental organizations linked to the Indian government.”

Gupta, currently incarcerated in a New York jail, faces charges of attempting to hire an undercover U.S. federal agent to kill Sikh American leaders. The case implicates Indian officials tied to Modi’s administration.

Sikh American leaders are also calling for increased protection from the U.S. government. “We ask President Trump to ensure that the FBI and DHS safeguard the Sikh American community from foreign threats,” said a spokesperson. “This invisible invasion of foreign agents is a growing national security crisis, undermining American sovereignty and threatening public safety.”
