NEW YORK, NY – Tata-owned Air India has expanded its U.S. operations with the launch of a direct flight from Delhi to Newark, New Jersey, starting January 2. The new route will be serviced by the airline’s flagship Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which marks another step in Air India’s growth in the North American market.
This follows the introduction of Air India’s A350 service on the Delhi-New York (JFK) route on November 1, 2024.
By improving its international route network, Air India aims to enhance the seamless connection between North America and destinations in Australia or Southeast Asia through its hubs in Delhi and Mumbai, the airline said. It currently operates 298 aircraft, servicing 55 destinations within India and 48 international locations.
Air India said, the airline plans to add 100 new planes to its fleet by 2027. In the interim, it will continue to deploy Vistara aircraft on metro routes and key international destinations such as London and Frankfurt.
In celebration of the new flight routes to New York (JFK) and Newark (EWR), Air India’s cabin crew recreated iconic New York City moments and visited popular movie locations, to mark the airline’s expansion into the U.S. market, as seen above.
