PHOENIX, AZ – Amish Shah, the Democratic nominee in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District, said October 13 that impeaching President Donald Trump should be considered if Democrats regain control of the House, while continuing to tie Republican rival Jay Feely to the president and his policies.

In an interview on MS NOW, Shah was asked what Democrats should work on if they win a House majority in the November 3 midterm elections.

Shah said Democrats should address Americans’ everyday concerns while holding Trump accountable for what he described as constitutional violations. He cited the First Amendment controversy involving late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and due process concerns involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement, including cases involving U.S. citizens.

“And yes, that’s up to and including impeachment if he himself violates the Constitution,” Shah said.

The emergency medicine doctor and former Arizona state representative is challenging Feely, a former Arizona Cardinals kicker endorsed by Trump, in a competitive race that Democrats view as an opportunity to help flip control of the House.

Shah has made Feely’s relationship with Trump a central theme of his campaign, arguing that electing the Republican would reinforce the administration’s policies on the economy, immigration and health care.

At an October 7 debate, Shah accused Republicans of failing to act as a check on the president and instead following his lead.

“When he says jump, these guys have to say how high,” Shah said, according to the Arizona Mirror’s account of the debate.

Feely, meanwhile, has portrayed Shah as aligned with the Democratic Party’s progressive wing, warning that his election would bring what he called “big government socialism

The district includes Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills and parts of north and central Phoenix. Although it leans Republican, national Democrats see it as a potential pickup in their effort to regain the House majority.

Affordability has emerged as a major issue in the contest. Shah has called for ending the war with Iran, pursuing more predictable tariff policies, reversing Medicaid cuts under Trump’s domestic policy legislation, expanding access to Medicare through a buy-in option and increasing housing construction.

Feely has emphasized cutting government waste and fraud, claiming that fraud costs taxpayers enormous sums. During the debate, he cited an estimate of roughly $1 trillion in government fraud but did not identify a specific source for the figure. He argued that lawsuits brought by Democrats had hindered the Department of Government Efficiency.

The candidates also disagree over data centers. Shah opposes building them in the district because of local opposition, while Feely argues they could create jobs and benefit residents.

On immigration, Shah said he opposed open borders and illegal immigration but criticized the Trump administration’s enforcement methods as inhumane and said they had resulted in civil rights violations.

Both candidates said preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons was important, but Shah questioned the Trump administration’s handling of the war, while Feely defended the decision to launch it despite its economic costs.

  • I do not understand why this guy and his Donkeys keep pushing for impeachment after failing two times? They have nothing better to do? Trump will be out in a couple of years anyway, but these Donkeys never learn!
