As Students, Everyone At NSD Looked Up To Pankaj Kapur
MUMBAI – Neena Gupta said she and her peers looked up to actor Pankaj Kapur during their time at the National School of Drama.
Speaking on a chat show ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai’, where Kapur appeared as a guest, Gupta recalled their first impression of him as an extremely committed and hardworking actor. She said they believed that to become good actors, they had to learn from him.
The ‘Panchayat’ actress said, “When we first came to know about Pankaj Kapur at the National School of Drama, as he was our senior, it was like, ‘Just look at him, he is such a committed actor, he works so much, you should learn something from him.’ So we were really impressed by him. We believed that if we wished to be actors, we must learn from him what commitment and hard work are all about.”
She added that Kapur is not only dedicated to his craft but also to his family.
Neena Gupta and Pankaj Kapur later worked together in the 1983 satirical black comedy ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, a film that critiques corruption across politics, bureaucracy, media, and business. It was partly inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni’s English-language drama ‘Blow-Up’. (IANS)
