Ayushmann Says Karan Johar Ignored His Request For A Role
MUMBAI-Actor Ayushmann Khurrana recalled how an attempt to contact filmmaker Karan Johar in 2007 ended with him being told that newcomers were not auditioned.
During an earlier appearance on Johar’s popular talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’, Ayushmann revisited the incident from his early days as a radio jockey (RJ), when he was trying to establish himself in the entertainment industry.
Ayushmann was attending an awards show in 2007 when he met Johar, the filmmaker behind ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. Hoping to pursue a career in acting, he asked Johar for his phone number.
“I was like, ‘Can I have your number? I want to be an actor.’ You gave me a landline number. The next morning, when I called the number and asked to speak to Karan Johar, the person on the other line said, ‘We don’t audition outsiders and newcomers’ or something like that,” Ayushmann recalled.
Johar responded in a light-hearted manner, saying, “I gave you the right number. That was very sweet of me! I must’ve thought that you have potential”.
Ayushmann pointed out that despite receiving the number, he had not managed to speak to Johar. The filmmaker then wondered why the actor had never shared the incident earlier.
Explaining why he had kept the story to himself, Ayushmann said he had to be more careful about what he said as his career progressed.
“When I was an RJ, I could be myself completely and freely say whatever was on my mind,” he said. (IANS)
