CA Assembly: Darshana Patel Leads, Tara Trails; Kalra, Bains Comfortable

SACRAMENTO, CA – As California Assembly results continue to roll in, Indian American candidate Darshana Patel holds an edge over Republican Kristie Bruce-Lane in Assembly District 76, with 64% of precincts reporting. Patel leads with 52.31% of the vote (72,095 votes), while Bruce-Lane trails at 47.69% (65,726 votes). This open-seat race, following incumbent Brian Maienschein’s departure, covers parts of San Diego County, including Escondido and San Marcos. Patel’s lead aligns with district priorities on healthcare and education.
In Assembly District 26, Democrat Patrick Ahrens has a lead over Indian American candidate Tara Sreekrishnan in a close intra-party race, with Ahrens holding 58% of the vote (47,443 votes) to Sreekrishnan’s 42% (34,415 votes). This district, spanning parts of Silicon Valley, has seen both candidates focus on housing issues and the tech sector’s regional impact.
Assembly District 27 remains a stronghold for Democrat Ash Kalra, who leads with 65.4% of the vote (60,047 votes) over Republican Ted Stroll’s 34.6% (31,706 votes). Kalra’s progressive stance on environmental and social issues continues to resonate in this diverse urban district.
In Assembly District 35, Democrat Jasmeet Bains leads with 56.2% (32,123 votes) over Republican Robert Rosas, who holds 43.8% (24,994 votes). Bains’ focus on healthcare and economic recovery has struck a chord with voters in this Bakersfield-area district.
