LOS ANGELES, CA — In a harmonious convergence of musical talents, California-based musician and producer Sandeep Khurana collaborated with the legendary vocalist Kumar Sanu. Recorded in Hollywood in July, the “Vande Mataram” is a soul-stirring patriotic composition that pays homage to India.
Kumar Sanu, known for his timeless contributions to the melodies of the late 80s and 90s, lends his captivating voice to this anthem that was both penned and composed by Sandeep Khurana. The production was helmed by Bappa B. Lahiri, son of the music legend Bappi Lahiri.
Bridging the gap between Indian and Western musical genres, “Vande Mataram” showcases Sandeep’s musical finesse. The track marries the classic Indian melodic form with Western orchestration, creating an evocative soundscape. The song commences with a heartfelt poem written and recited by Sandeep himself, seamlessly transitioning into a harmonious blend of Kumar Sanu and Sandeep’s voices. The composition weaves together the soothing cadence of Indian melody with the grandeur of orchestral elements like strings, beats, pads, synths, and layered chorus.
Khurana shed light on the inspiration behind the anthem, saying, “As India moves towards a transformative phase, I was compelled to compose this song as a celebration of the country’s positive direction. Beyond expressing my love for India, the composition represents the fusion of my Indian roots and cosmopolitan influences. This composition underscores how India’s growth is transcending global boundaries.”
Kumar Sanu echoed the excitement, sharing, “Singing this song has been a joyous experience for me. Sandeep-ji’s composition is melodious and profound. It’s been a while since I’ve had the opportunity to sing such a soulful track. I believe listeners will connect deeply with ‘Vande Mataram’ and feel an immense sense of patriotism and love for India.”
Khurana boasts an impressive portfolio of over 100 albums spanning diverse genres. As an alumnus of the renowned Ali Akbar College of Music in California, he has consistently demonstrated his musical prowess. His filmmaking talents have also garnered recognition, with accolades including the Special Jury Award at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival 2022, the Best Film Awards at the Francisco Arthouse Short Festival, and the Paris Cinema Awards.
