LOS ANGELES, CA – Community leaders, business professionals, friends, and supporters gathered for a successful fundraising event for Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman, providing an evening of conversation about the future of Los Angeles and some of the major challenges facing the city.
The event was chaired by Vinod and Jayshree Jivrajka, Anil and Renuka Badlani, Navneet and Ritu Chugh, Dr. Nitin Nanda, and Manasvi Mamgai, who welcomed guests and helped bring together members of the Southern California community for the evening.

Raman, who represents Los Angeles City Council District 4, shared her background and spoke about her experience in public service and the work being undertaken at City Hall. An urban planner, immigrant and mother of two, Raman was first elected to the City Council in 2020, becoming the first Asian American woman and the first South Asian elected to the Los Angeles City Council. She was reelected to a second term in 2024.
In her remarks, Raman discussed many of the issues that have been central to her work in Los Angeles, including homelessness, the shortage and cost of housing, protections for renters, improving basic city services, public safety, transportation and environmental concerns.

Housing and homelessness received particular attention. Raman has advocated for increasing the supply of housing, making it easier to build affordable housing and improving the way the city connects people experiencing homelessness with shelter, services and permanent housing. She also discussed the importance of preventing people from becoming homeless in the first place by addressing housing affordability and helping vulnerable residents remain in their homes.
Raman spoke about the complexity of governing a city as large and diverse as Los Angeles and the need for City Hall to deliver tangible results in residents’ everyday lives. Her remarks emphasized the importance of making local government more responsive and effective while tackling long-term problems that cannot be solved overnight.
The evening also gave guests an opportunity to speak personally with the councilmember, ask questions and discuss issues affecting Los Angeles and its many communities.

The hosts thanked Raman for spending time with the community and thanked the guests for participating in the evening.
The fundraiser reflected the increasingly active role of the Indian American community in civic and public affairs in Southern California and provided an opportunity for community members to engage directly with one of Los Angeles’ elected leaders.
The evening concluded with conversations among guests and a shared interest in remaining engaged in the civic life and future of Los Angeles.
In another fundraiser in downtown L.A., Raman was joined by Manasvi Mamgai, a former Miss India.
