UNION CITY, CA -Union City Human Relations Commission Chair Deepti Garg has entered the race for the New Haven Unified School District Governing Board, filing to run for the Trustee Area 5 seat in the Nov. 3 election.

A Union City resident since 2012, Garg brings both parental and educational experience to her campaign. Her two daughters attended James Logan High School, with one now studying at the University of California, Berkeley, and the younger entering her senior year at Logan.

Outside her community leadership, Garg is a cybersecurity program manager at a Fortune 500 company, where she oversees multimillion-dollar budgets. Earlier in her career, she taught engineering students in India before spending three years as a substitute teacher in Bay Area classrooms.

Appointed to the Union City Human Relations Commission in 2022, Garg has served as its chair since January 2026.

Running on a platform centered on academic opportunity, campus safety, fiscal accountability, and transparency, Garg said her perspective as both a parent and community member would shape her decisions if elected.

“When I vote on school district decisions, I’ll be voting for my own family, my neighbors, and every student in our community,” Garg said in a campaign statement. “Strong schools benefit everyone. They prepare students for success, strengthen neighborhoods, protect property values, and make sure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.”

Among the priorities outlined in her campaign are public reporting of class sizes at every school, regular updates on major district projects, and ensuring effective safety systems across all campuses.
