Defamation Allegation: BJP Politician Takes Dhruv Rathee To Court

NEW DELHI, (News Agencies) – A Delhi court has issued a summons to YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in a defamation suit filed by Suresh Karamshi Nakhua, a spokesperson for the BJP’s Mumbai unit. Nakhua is seeking ₹20 lakh in damages, alleging that Rathee referred to him as a “violent and abusive troll” in a YouTube video.

The summons, issued by District Judge Gunjan Gupta of the Saket Court on July 19, 2024, includes a notice for Rathee and social media platforms X and Google to appear for a hearing on August 6, 2024. Advocates Raghav Awasthi and Mukesh Sharma are representing the plaintiff.

In the video titled “My Reply to Godi Youtubers | Elvish Yadav | Dhruv Rathee,” uploaded on July 7, 2024, Rathee allegedly claimed that Prime Minister Modi had hosted violent and abusive trolls, including Nakhua, at his official residence. The video has garnered over 24 million views and 2.3 million likes.

Nakhua contends that Rathee’s statements have severely damaged his reputation, causing widespread condemnation and ridicule, and leading to significant harm to his personal and professional life.
