SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. — A New York state employee has been arrested on grand larceny charges for allegedly working two full-time jobs simultaneously and collecting more than $50,000 in wages he was not entitled to.
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office identified the accused as 39-year-old Mehul Goswami, who was employed remotely by the New York State Office of Information Technology Services. Investigators said Goswami began working a second job in March 2022 as a contractor for GlobalFoundries, a semiconductor manufacturer based in Malta, while still being paid for his state position.
Authorities allege that Goswami performed his duties for the private company during hours he was supposed to be working for the state, effectively defrauding taxpayers. He has been charged with grand larceny in the second degree, a Class C felony in New York that carries a potential prison sentence of up to 15 years.
Goswami was arraigned last week and released on his own recognizance. The case remains under investigation and is pending further court proceedings.
