Dr. M. Anand Prakash Is India’s New CG In Chicago

CHICAGO, IL – Career diplomat Dr. M. Anand Prakash officially took charge as the Consul General of India in Chicago on September 3. He succeeds Ambassador Somnath Ghosh, who has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Malaysia.

A 2005-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Prakash brings two decades of extensive diplomatic experience to his new role representing India across the U.S. Midwest.

Immediately prior to his Chicago posting, he headed the crucial Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran Division at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. His distinguished career at headquarters also includes key assignments within the Eurasia Division, the West Asia and North Africa Division – covering Israel, Palestine, Egypt, and Syria – and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Division.

Over his twenty years in foreign service, Prakash has represented India in diplomatic missions across the globe, completing overseas postings in Beijing, Moscow, Kyiv, and Jakarta.

In addition to his professional credentials, Prakash is a polyglot who is proficient in English, Tamil, and Hindi, along with a working knowledge of Russian. Outside of his official duties, he enjoys traveling and listening to music.

He arrives in Chicago alongside his family, including his wife, Dr. Srivardhini and their two children.
