FRESNO, CA – On December 7, the Human Rights Coalition of the Central Valley (HRCCV) hosted a special celebration at the Fresno State Library to honor Dr. Sudarshan Kapoor, founder and longtime leader of the organization, as he retires from his leadership role. The gathering celebrated Kapoor’s contributions to promoting nonviolence, human rights, and peaceful protest in the San Joaquin Valley, particularly for his decades of tireless advocacy.
The event featured remarks from key figures, including Dr. Saúl Jiménez Sandoval, president of Fresno State, and Dolores Huerta, civil rights icon, who spoke via Zoom. Huerta recognized Kapoor’s work in preserving the legacies of icons like Mahatma Gandhi and Cesar Chavez through the Peace Garden at Fresno State.
Kapoor said HRCCV was founded to raise awareness about human rights in the region. Inspired by figures such as Eleanor Roosevelt, he emphasized the importance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in shaping the coalition’s mission. He expressed gratitude for growing support the organization has received over the years.
