Elderly Sikh Man In Critical Condition After Apparent Hate Crime Attack

HOLLYWOOD, CA – Los Angeles police are investigating an apparent hate crime after a 70-year-old Sikh man was brutally attacked outside a convenience store near the Sikh Gurdwara on Lankershim Boulevard.
Harpal Singh, a retired college mathematics professor originally from India and a U.S. citizen, remains in critical condition at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center following the assault on August 4.
Family members said he has undergone at least three surgeries to treat severe head and facial injuries, including brain bleeding and eye surgery. He remains unconscious and sedated in the ICU.
According to police, the attack occurred around 3 p.m. when Singh was struck violently with a golf club by a man riding a bicycle. A witness reported seeing the assault, but no clear suspect description has yet been released. Investigators have not confirmed if any security camera footage from the scene has been recovered.
Singh was known as a quiet, devoted member of the local Sikh community who lived at the Lankershim Gurdwara, where he was known for his unstinting seva—serving langar meals and doing paath (reading the scriptures). A family source said he was so quiet it was hard to imagine anyone knowingly wanting to hurt him.
He was single, never married, and often seen grocery shopping or feeding birds at the park near the temple. His extended family of nephews, nieces, and siblings – including Dr. Gurdial Singh Randhawa, who is well known and has been in the community for over 35 years – while deeply concerned by the attack, are focused on the recovery of Harpal Singh, a family member said.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Sikh Coalition, a national advocacy group, said, “This has deeply shaken our community.” It described the attack as an apparent hate-motivated incident and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Police are actively seeking leads and anyone with knowledge about the attacker to contact the LAPD North Hollywood Division.

This is a MAGA environment that has charged up the hate crime against most minorities. The Sikhs are the 3rd most-hated group in America, according to the recent statistical data released by the FBI. The MAGA followers must know the history of the Sikhs. Major works, written by Patwant Singh and Khushwant Singh, are widely available. These two authors cautioned Sikh adversaries to be careful around this group. Do not attempt to intimidate the followers of the Sikh faith. If one does, it will be at their peril.

There is no evidence or any information indicating anything to do with a MAGA follower. This is most likely another blatant random act of violence by a drugged out mentally ill transient, hundreds of theses type of individuals exist. Just stand at that intersection or even Burbank and Sepulveda. It’s epidemic, look at the father in Ventura sitting down with his 7yr old daughter eating at a restaurant had his throat slashed, or the women attacked in Venice. It’s hell on our streets especially for people that are legitimately homeless. MAGA’s are idiots but this isn’t that. What’s going to happen if we as a society have a real civil emergency with these drugged out zombies running rampant ,even with supposed civil order no one has any kind of solution. disgusting and horrific, how can anyone do this to someone especially the elderly. may god bless him with strength and knowing many stand behind him. this type of hate should be squashed but our current culture is feeding into it, innocent people are losing their lives and being targeted. I can’t even bare to read or watch this story. God please help and shine down your light on this wonderful man.
