India-West News Desk
ACCOMAC, VA – A 24-year-old woman and her 56-year-old father were shot dead at a store here after an early-morning altercation over alcohol. The shooting occurred on March 20 in Accomack County, just after the store, Shore Stop, opened for the day.
According to police, the accused, 44-year-old George Frazier Devon Wharton, arrived at the store early that morning to buy liquor and questioned why it had been closed overnight. Moments later, he pulled out a gun and opened fire on the father-daughter duo. Pradeep Patel died at the scene, while his daughter Urmi was rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Pradeep Patel, his wife Hansaben, and their daughter Urmi had moved to the U.S. six years ago from Mehsana district in Gujarat. They had been working at the convenience store, which was owned by a relative, Paresh Patel.
Pradeep Patel and Hansaben have two other daughters—one living in Canada and the other in Ahmedabad.
Wharton has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, along with multiple felony and firearms-related offenses.
