Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla Will Not Pursue Third Term
India-West Staff Reporter
HOBOKEN, NJ – After seven years of leading the city, Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla announced that he will not seek re-election for a third term in November. In an email to Hoboken residents, Bhalla cited discussions with his family as the driving factor behind his decision to step down at the end of his second term.
“Serving as your Mayor these past seven years has been and will continue to be the privilege of my lifetime,” Bhalla said. Reflecting on his tenure, he highlighted significant accomplishments such as securing the former Union Dry Dock site for public use, launching the Vision Zero initiative for pedestrian safety, and inaugurating ResilienCity Park, one of the largest resiliency parks in the country. He also emphasized the preservation of over 10 acres of public parkland, ensuring that Hoboken’s unique character is maintained while key areas of the city have been revitalized.
This decision follows his failed bid in 2023 for New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District, where he contested against Rob Menendez in the Democratic primary. Despite the setback, Bhalla remains dedicated to serving the public.
As Bhalla steps aside, speculation has risen over who will run for the mayoral seat. Councilmembers Ruben Ramos, Tiffanie Fisher, and Michael Russo have all hinted at potential candidacies, signaling a competitive race ahead. Bhalla expressed confidence that Hoboken will continue to thrive under new leadership, leaving the city in capable hands.
