How The VP Pick Went Down WIth Trump, Indian American Politicians

India-West News Desk

WASHINGTON, DC – The selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz by Kamala Harris to join her on the Democratic ticket as vice president went down along party lines on August 6.

While Dems are energized – almost giddy – and have brought back a breath of fresh air to presidential politics instead of the dark, everything is over sentiment that Donald Trump, who heads the Republican ticket has pushed in two election cycles, his followers and other GOP leaders have been scrambling to lambast the selection.

Trump’s post on social media have been described variously from him needing “intervention” to “unhinged.” This is what he said, calling Harris “crazy” and childishly refusing to say her name right:

His former rival in the GOP presidential primaries Nikki Haley said, “Democrats are going to have to explain this movement towards deeper antisemitism. We are seeing it in the protests, in the rhetoric by the Squad and members of Congress, and now in the VP pick. They can’t talk this away as a coincidence. It’s concerning.” She also wrote:

On the Democratic side, the support was swift. President Joe Biden who dropped out, propelling Kamala Harris to the top of the Democratic ticket wrote:

Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller commended Harris’ decision.  In an email she wrote, “Whether leading a state or a nation, we need leaders with moral conviction and a talent for finding common ground. This is the kind of partnership Joe Biden had with Barack Obama, the kind Kamala Harris has with Joe Biden, and the kind Tim Walz will bring to the 47th President of the United States.”

Other Indian American lawmakers issued statements and posted their support on social media:

  • Feel sorry for young couples. If they have kids in school they need to shield them against using marijuana that Harris used in her school, setting up a bad example. Obviously Harris as well as her VP choice Walz are both for recreational marijuana..Pot is a gateway drug and will likely lead to addiction to stronger drugs, like cocaine and heroin. The kids can get access to fentanyl accidentally and may die. On top of everything they are both for abortion while we hear of low birth rate in this country

  • Harris and Walz’s team is a new hope for America. They represent and promote the strength of this country’s multi-diverse community. Unlike the other political party, a cabal of lunatics and weirdos, who have no respect for other citizens, and have no plan for uplifting the nation. Most of us will find out the truth and the substantive policy issues, if any, of the Republic Party in the forthcoming debates. I can hardly wait.
