Hollywood’s Astro Lion Launches Indian Arm With ‘Detective Sherdil’

MUMBAI – Maurya Entertainment, the new India-based arm of U.S. production company Astro Lion Pictures, is entering Indian cinema with the mystery-comedy Detective Sherdil, starring Diljit Dosanjh. The film will premiere June 20 on ZEE5.

Founded by Rohini Singh, Manmeet Singh (also known as Prem Jyotish), and Paramdeep Singh (co-founder of JioSaavn), Astro Lion Pictures has quickly gained momentum in Hollywood with projects like Gunslingers starring Nicolas Cage and Tow, featuring Rose Byrne, Demi Lovato, and Octavia Spencer—set to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 7.

“Our vision has always been to tell distinctive stories with global appeal,” said Manmeet. “Detective Sherdil reflects that spirit—it’s fresh, cinematic, and driven by one of the most versatile talents in Indian cinema.”

Directed by Ravi Chhabriya, the film features Dosanjh as a quirky detective unraveling a case filled with twists, secrets, and eccentric suspects. Filmed in Budapest, the ensemble cast includes Diana Penty, Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah, Chunky Panday, Banita Sandhu, and Sumeet Vyas.
