I Wanted To End My Life: Mary Kom Says Her Children Kept Her Going
MUMBAI-Six-time world champion boxer Mary Kom has recalled a deeply difficult period in her life when she contemplated ending her life but chose to keep going for the sake of her young children with her former husband.
The Olympic medalist made the emotional revelation during a conversation inside the ‘Bigg Boss 20’ house, where she spoke about her struggles with fellow contestants Isha Rikhi, Rhiti Tiwari and Kanika Mann.
Mary, known for her achievements in the boxing ring, said that despite her strength as an athlete, there was a period when she felt completely broken and struggled to cope with everything she was going through.
“I am very strong. But in that year, I lost a bit. I was broken. I had a lot to do,” Mary said. “I wanted to end my life. That’s what I was thinking. But I am still alive for my children. They were small,” she said.
Mary also spoke about the challenges she had faced since childhood and the sacrifices she had made for her family, her home state Manipur and the nation.
“I have been through a lot since I was young. I have sacrificed for my family, for my state and for my nation. Who can fight like this? This is a challenge,” she said.
She also reflected on her competitive drive, saying she wanted to win more medals but could no longer compete because she had crossed the age limit.
“I am a different athlete. I want to win more medals. One medal isn’t enough. Two medals aren’t enough. Three medals aren’t enough. I am still hungry but can no longer participate because of overage,” Mary said.
Mary further spoke about how difficult it had become for her to express her emotions, saying she had cried a lot in the past and now felt the need to hold back her tears.
“I have cried a lot. Now, slowly, I have to pull the tears inside,” she said. (IANS)
