CHAMPLAIN, NY — On May 28, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Champlain apprehended Gurdev Singh, a 42-year-old Indian citizen, who was found to have an active felony warrant for child solicitation from Indiana.

Singh was stopped after being denied entry into Canada. During routine primary inspection, a check through the National Crime Information Center revealed his outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Plainfield Police Department for solicitation of sexual intercourse with a minor, classified as a level 4 felony. Further investigation in secondary inspection confirmed Singh’s identity and status as an illegal alien, having overstayed his visitor visa since 2016.

CBP officers also discovered multiple bladed weapons in Singh’s possession, including a sword and a hatchet. Following his arrest, Singh was handed over to the New York State Police and is currently held by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office pending extradition.

Champlain Port Director Steve Bronson praised the officers, stating, “Our enforcement-focused CBP team successfully used national law enforcement resources and their expertise to apprehend a known child predator. Illegal aliens, especially those who exploit children, will face justice.”
