India-West Staff Reporter
LOS ANGELES, CA – The inaugural USC India Conference, themed “India Rising,” will take place at the University of Southern California on January 25. The event aims to explore India’s growing influence across various global industries. Featuring a lineup of industry-related speakers and a carefully curated agenda, the conference will delve into the lessons that can be shared between nations as India continues to expand its global reach.
The event is the result of efforts from student leaders within USC’s MBA program, as well as the broader Association of Indian students at the university, a press release said. It will feature an impressive roster of speakers, including representatives from the Indian government, venture capitalists, industry leaders, and legal professionals. One notable speaker will be Dr. K. Srikar Reddy, the Consul General from San Francisco.
A highlight of the conference will be a fireside chat with Kanwal Rekhi, a Silicon Valley titan, who will discuss “The Indian Diaspora” and the evolution of South Asians within the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The conference will also explore various themes, including the portrayal of Indians in Hollywood and the growing popularity of cricket in America. These discussions aim to broaden the scope of the event and engage attendees on key cultural and societal topics.
Co-founder Tejaswa Gavankar, a recent USC MBA alumnus, said, “The Indian diaspora in the US is one of the most successful communities globally, with incomes double the national average and exceptional educational achievements—80% holding a bachelor’s degree. We believe this group has immense potential, and our goal is to create a forum that inspires individuals to aim higher while fostering a supportive network to help them achieve their aspirations.”
The conference will emphasize the importance of staying connected to India’s burgeoning economy. Co-founder Raghav Mahajan, a current MBA student at USC, noted, “Even though many of us have found success in the US, India is growing at three times the pace of the US economy. Whether it’s your next business idea, career move, or investment opportunity, keeping an eye on India is not just prudent—it’s essential.”
Although this is the inaugural edition of the USC India Conference, the organizing team said it has already raised funds to establish a scholarship. This scholarship will honor standout individuals who demonstrate a commitment to advancing the South Asian community while excelling academically and professionally.
