India Restricts ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ With ‘A’ Rating!
India-West News Desk
MUMBAI- ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ has been granted an adults-only ‘A’ certification in India, even as the film has received significantly more lenient ratings worldwide..
The report states that India is the only country where the film is restricted to viewers aged 18 and above.
Audiences who watched the film on May 1 and 2 said they expected strong or explicit content due to the rating. However, viewers reported no such elements, describing the film as suitable for family viewing.
Across Europe, certification boards have cleared the film for younger audiences.
In markets including, Singapore, Indonesia, Bahrain, Argentina, and the United Arab Emirates, the film carries classifications that permit viewers under 18 to watch with adult supervision. The United Kingdom, Brazil, South Korea, and several other countries have assigned a 12 rating.
Even in regions with relatively stricter guidelines, including Australia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Russia, the film remains accessible to audiences below 18 under defined conditions.
The film features American actors Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci, along with British actor Emily Blunt, in lead roles and is positioned as a comedy-drama.
The situation recalls the 2016 film ‘La La Land’, which also received an ‘A’ certificate in India despite being widely cleared for younger audiences internationally.
The Central Board of Film Certification has not issued a public explanation for the classification.
