India Talks About Its Social Policies At New York Meet
NEW YORK, NY (ANI)- India is participating in the 63rd session of the Commission for Social Development (CSoCD) here from February 10 to 14, led by Savitri Thakur, Minister of State for Women and Child Development. India has highlighted its efforts to promote social cohesion through inclusive policies, gender equality, and social protection programs.
The session, focusing on advancing inclusive social policies, involved 49 countries, including ministers from 16 nations. On February 12, Thakur delivered India’s statement at the Ministerial Forum, addressing the theme “Strengthening Solidarity and Social Cohesion.” She praised the Commission’s leadership in ensuring no one is left behind.
Since the 1995 Copenhagen Summit, India has made strides in poverty reduction, healthcare, and digital infrastructure. Thakur emphasized India’s inclusive vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas” (Development for All) and initiatives like the JAM Trinity (Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, Mobile) to promote financial inclusion, especially for women, people with disabilities, and the elderly.
India’s social protection model includes 26 weeks of paid maternity leave, benefits for 37.5 million mothers, and over 100 million people benefiting from early childhood care and education programs. India supports resolutions on social protection and continues advancing policies for multidimensional poverty reduction, universal health coverage, and affordable housing.
