EDISON, NJ (IANS) – An Indian American has installed a life-size statue of film star Amitabh Bachchan outside his home here.

The statue is in a glass enclosure, and it was installed on August 28 amidst much celebration.

Gopi Sheth, announced the installation in a tweet which noted that lots of Amitabh fans gathered for the inauguration ceremony. Sheth also posted pictures of the statue, flanked by his family.

The statue was designed in Rajasthan and cost Sheth $75,000, according to reports.

Sheth is an internet security engineer and came to the US from Gujarat in the 1990s.

Edison is home to lots of Indian Americans with thriving Indian restaurants and apparel stores.

Sheth is a huge Amitabh Bachchan fan and says the film star is “like God” to him. “The biggest thing that inspires me about him is not only his reel life, but also real life.” He is impressed with the manner in which the star conducts himself in public, he said.

“He is very down to earth. He takes care of his fans. He is not like so many other stars. This is why I thought I should have his statue outside of my house.”

  • I find it highly offensive to bestow this honor on an undeserving person. What did Mr. Bachchan do to deserve it? Being an actor, may be a popular actor does not qualify him to have this honor. He is very arrogant. Is that a qualification? I know we have Mahatma Gandhiji’s statue in this country. He is no where on equal footing with Mr. Gandhi, for that will be an insult to Gandhiji. I wonder how Gopi Sheth could justify such an irrational act. This is an epitome of ”CHAMCHAGIRI”.
