Indianapolis Rally Highlights Khalistan-Linked Separatist Push: Report

INDIANAPOLIS, IN-A convoy of vehicles displaying yellow Khalistan flags here, was part of a broader effort by separatist groups to leverage democratic freedoms in Western countries to advance a symbolic campaign, according to a report.

The convoy, organized to mobilize support for a non-binding referendum on a separate Sikh state, has no legal consequence and cannot alter territorial boundaries or constitutional arrangements, the report said, adding that such exercises are aimed at sustaining a narrative among sections of the diaspora.

According to a report published by ‘Khalsa Vox’, the August 1 convoy on Interstate 465 involved a five-mile procession of cars described by organizers as a “convoy of American Sikhs” ahead of a planned referendum vote scheduled for August 16 at Richard G. Lugar Plaza in Indianapolis.

The report identified ‘Sikhs for Justice’, an organization it described as linked to separatist activism, as being behind the mobilization.

“The spectacle was textbook diaspora activism: free speech exercised in the open, protected by the First Amendment, and staged for maximum visibility,” the report said.

It added that the event caused disruption to local traffic and required management by authorities, while also drawing wider attention due to the display of separatist symbols.

Highlighting broader trends, the report said such activities reflect a recurring pattern in parts of North America, where a small but organized network uses public demonstrations and campaigns to promote separatist narratives.

“Convoys that clog highways, rallies that feature inflammatory rhetoric, and campaigns that equate legitimate grievance with the demand for territorial secession do not advance justice,” the report stated.

The report further noted that similar activities have been observed in Canada, where protests and related actions have periodically drawn attention from authorities and community organizations.

It said such incidents often prompt mainstream Sikh organizations to reiterate that they do not support separatism or violence, even as public focus remains on high-visibility demonstrations. (IANS)
