WASHINGTON, DC — In response to India’s launch of Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, U.S. Congressman Shri Thanedar expressed strong support, affirming India’s sovereign right to defend its citizens and territory.

Calling the strikes a justified reaction to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, in which terrorists brutally targeted Hindu civilians, Thanedar said: “India has the right to defend itself after what happened in Pahalgam. Terrorists were targeting Hindus, and now that India has taken action against terrorist infrastructure, it is exercising its right to retaliate against these barbaric acts.”

He urged the United States to stand with India during this critical time, advocating for a formal U.S. recognition of India’s right to protect its people and borders. “The United States must support India as it fights terrorism after the barbaric attacks in Pahalgam,” Thanedar stated. “We must also encourage a thorough and complete investigation into the terrorist attack.”

Fellow Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi also emphasized the need for global unity in counterterrorism efforts but stressed the importance of preventing escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. “In the wake of last month’s horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the need to combat terrorism and prevent future violence has become even more urgent,” he said. Echoing calls for restraint, he added, “As Secretary Rubio stated, it is essential to avoid broader conflict and further escalation.”

Krishnamoorthi also addressed growing concerns about Pakistan’s internal political crisis, calling for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and the restoration of democratic norms. “The current situation should not be used as a pretext to further undermine democracy in Pakistan,” he warned.

  • Separating Hindu families and separating men among them, asking them to remove their pants to see if they were circumcised or not and then shooting them dead in front of their families is beyond carnage, beyond brutality, beyond savagery, beyond barbaric. Wondering what made our western neighbor plan these kinds of brutality? What did the Pak military brass think? Were they expecting quiet?
