NEW YORK, NY (ANI)– The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations commemorated the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar with a special event at the UN headquarters in New York, attended by global dignitaries.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, reflected on Dr. Ambedkar’s pivotal role in India’s freedom movement and his legacy as the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. He also emphasized Ambedkar’s global relevance, particularly his advocacy for equality, fraternity, and democratic values.

The event, themed “The timeless appeal of Dr. Ambedkar’s vision within the UN and beyond,” highlighted his progressive ideas and enduring influence on both national and international policy.

Harish noted Ambedkar’s distinguished academic background, including his time at Columbia University, which shaped his rational and pragmatic approach to governance and social reform. “Fraternity, for Dr. Ambedkar, was another name for democracy,” he remarked, underlining its importance in fostering dignity and unity.
