Jaishankar Reviews India-Canada Roadmap, Holds Talks With Rubio

TORONTO- External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar held significant bilateral meetings with his Canadian and US counterparts, Anita Anand and Marco Rubio, respectively, on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara, Canada. India is participating in the two-day event as an invited partner.

During his meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, both leaders reviewed progress under the New Roadmap 2025 aimed at enhancing bilateral ties. According to a statement by Canada’s Department of Global Affairs, this marked their third meeting this year.

The ministers exchanged views on the ongoing law-enforcement dialogue between Canadian and Indian authorities and discussed cooperation in key areas outlined in the joint roadmap. Anand also conveyed her condolences for those killed in the explosion in Delhi on November 10 evening, reiterating Canada’s solidarity. EAM Jaishankar, who is visiting Canada at Anand’s invitation, also praised the progress.

Jaishankar’s diplomatic engagements continued with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.  Their discussion focused on bilateral ties, specifically trade and supply chains, and an exchange of views on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East/West Asia situation, and the Indo-Pacific.

The meeting with Rubio comes days after US President Donald Trump stated that the US is very close to signing a trade agreement with India.  (IANS)
