Janhvi, Sidharth, React To ‘Param Sundari’ Being A Gen Z ‘Chennai Express’
India-West News Desk
MUMBAI – Lead stars of the upcoming film ‘Param Sundari’, Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra, have commented on online comparisons of their film to the 2013 blockbuster Chennai Express. Netizens have been drawing parallels between the two films, calling Param Sundari a “Gen Z” version of the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer.
Speaking to Mirchi Plus, Janhvi Kapoor addressed the comparisons, calling them a compliment. She highlighted the difference in their characters, stating, “But Deepika (Padukone) played a Tamilian in the film… I am from Kerala in the film, and not all people from the South can be grouped together. It’s a different milieu altogether.” She added that such rom-coms are not a frequent occurrence in the industry and that being compared to an “iconic film” with “iconic characters and actors” is a positive thing.
Sidharth Malhotra echoed this sentiment, stating, “We don’t mind the comparison at all, I think it is a compliment.” He noted that while he loves ‘Chennai Express’, he does not believe the two films are the same. He also pointed out that Shah Rukh Khan’s character was not a Delhi native and the film wasn’t set in Kerala, while Janhvi’s character is “half Malayalam, half Tamilian.”
Malhotra further explained that the goal of ‘Param Sundari’ is to revive the rom-com genre, citing classic examples like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Param Sundari is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 29.
