Judge KP George Charged And Jailed For Money Laundering

HOUSTON, TX — Fort Bend County Judge KP George was arrested and charged with two counts of money laundering on April 4, according to court and jail records. The charges stem from allegations of financial misconduct early in his tenure as the county’s top elected official.

According to indictments filed in the case, George is accused of engaging in “criminal activity, namely wire fraud,” and “tampering with a governmental record” in connection to a campaign finance report. The charges relate to transactions totaling more than $30,000 but less than $150,000 that allegedly occurred between January 12 and April 22, 2019—just weeks after George assumed office on January 1, the Houston Chronicle reported.

If convicted, the third-degree felonies could carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

In a public statement, George denied the allegations, claiming the financial transactions in question involved a legal campaign loan. “I loaned personal funds to my own campaign and later repaid the loan,” he said. “This is a standard and lawful practice.”

He also pushed back against what he described as a politically motivated narrative. “Allegations and accusations are being made without full context or disclosure of the facts,” George added. “Deliberately manipulating the narrative to tarnish my reputation and character.”

But in response to the latest charges, Fort Bend County Democratic Party Chair Fred Taylor called on George to resign. “It’s time for him to just do the right thing and just step down,” Taylor told ABC13, citing concern over the judge’s ongoing attacks against the district attorney’s office and the mounting legal battles.

This marks the second legal controversy involving George in recent months. In 2024, he was arrested for allegedly working with his former chief of staff, Taral Patel, to create fake racist social media posts targeting a Republican opponent in what authorities described as an effort to damage the opponent’s reputation.

Outside of his political role, Judge George is known for emphasizing faith and family. He is married to Sheeba George, and together they have three children.
