Kash Patel Accused Of Ordering FBI Firings, Even Before Confirmation

India-West News Desk

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has accused Kash Patel, President Trump’s nominee for FBI director, of orchestrating firings at the bureau before his confirmation and then lying about it under oath, CBS News reported.

In a letter to Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, Durbin said that multiple sources have confirmed Patel’s direct involvement in what he described as a politically motivated purge within the FBI. Patel denied any knowledge of the firings when questioned during his confirmation hearing last month.

Durbin further said that Patel’s directives were being executed by senior White House aide Stephen Miller and others. According to sources cited by Durbin, a member of Patel’s team has been feeding him internal FBI information, allowing him to issue orders despite having no formal government position, CBS News reported.

The senator condemned the alleged interference, stating, “It is unacceptable for a nominee with no current role in government, much less at the FBI, to personally direct unjustified and potentially illegal adverse employment actions against senior career FBI leadership and other dedicated, nonpartisan law enforcement officers.”

Patel has been nominated to replace Christopher Wray, a Trump appointee who resigned on January 20, the day of the inauguration. Trump had soured on Wray over the FBI’s investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
