LOS ANGELES, CA – In a swift turnaround from his stint with the Philadelphia Eagles, former defensive coordinator Sean Desai has secured a fresh start in Los Angeles. Desai, who spent less than a year with the Eagles, faced challenges and criticisms during his tenure, leading to a change in coaching responsibilities.
Sports Illustrated reports that the 40-year-old coach will be joining Sean McVay’s staff with the Los Angeles Rams in a senior defensive role.
Desai’s coaching career took a positive turn during the 2021 season with the Chicago Bears, where his defensive unit ranked sixth in total yards allowed and an impressive third against the pass. Following this successful season, Desai transitioned to the Eagles, hired to replace Jonathan Gannon after a Super Bowl run and top-five defensive finish.
However, Desai’s time in Philadelphia did not unfold as expected. Reports surfaced of confusion within his defensive scheme, coupled with a perceived lack of confidence, Sports Illustrated said. These challenges contributed to the Eagles’ defense ranking among the league’s worst in yards allowed and passing touchdowns.
After a disappointing 2023 season that saw the Eagles drop six of their final seven games, Desai had been relieved of his coaching duties.
Desai grew up in Shelton, Connecticut. He attended Boston University to become an orthopedist and graduated in 3 years with a double major in philosophy and political science and a minor in biology.
