LOS ANGELES, CA — India has officially signed a 10-year lease for a full floor at AON Center, 707 Wilshire Blvd, here, making good on its promise to open a consulate in Southern California.

The 20,507 square-foot office will serve as a vital hub for consular services, cultural initiatives, and economic engagement in the region – a long-expressed community need. The new consulate will serve Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada.

The new consulate will be the second in California, complementing the longstanding mission in San Francisco.

The AON Center is a 62-story, recently renovated office tower in downtown Los Angeles. The building offers cutting-edge workspace, architectural distinction, and amenities including a fully wired conference center, a full-service gym, and one of downtown’s only private-use helipads.

The 29th floor also houses the State Bank of India.

Key consulate officials present during the signing included diplomat Kulwant Singh and Priyanka Tyagi, who will serve as Vice Consul in Los Angeles and recently met with several members of the community at India Independence Day events.

The new Consul General for Los Angeles will be Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, who in the past has served as Deputy Consul General in San Francisco and will now arrive from New Delhi.

“This milestone reflects the consulate’s commitment to serving the Indian American community in Los Angeles,” said Singh. “The new office will strengthen our engagement and provide a central, accessible location for all citizens and visitors.”

The lease transaction was facilitated by Tina LaMonica, Executive Vice President, SIOR, of NAI Capital Commercial’s Pasadena office, who represented the Consulate. The building’s landlord, Carolwood LP, was represented by Ian Gilbert, Executive Vice President of Colliers, and Vice Chair Matthew Heyn.

LaMonica said, “Since February, we toured numerous properties to find a space that reflects the consulate’s prestige and mission. AON Center provides a world-class environment at the heart of downtown Los Angeles.”

With this expansion, Southern California’s Indian American population will have easier access to services such as passport renewals, visa processing, and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card applications. The move also signals enhanced opportunities for cultural and economic exchange between Los Angeles and India.

Gunjan Bagla, who runs a Los Angeles–based U.S.-India consultancy, noted the impact across industries stating, “American business leaders in entertainment, aerospace, electric vehicles, telecommunications, medical devices, and biotech will now have direct access to Indian diplomats for trade, investment, and cultural connections.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced during his visit to the US in 2024 while addressing a packed crowd at Nassau Coliseum in New York that LA and Boston would be the sites of new consulates.
