Maha Kumbh: Over 35 Million Devotees Take Holy Dip On Makar Sankranti

PRAYAGRAJ (ANI)– Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on January 14 confirmed that over 35 million devotees took a holy dip at the Sangam in Prayagraj to mark Makar Sankranti.

The state government organized a grand display by showering rose petals from helicopters, draping the lakhs of devotees gathered at the Sangam bank in floral blessings. The petals were also scattered over all the ghats and Akharas, enhancing the spiritual ambiance of the occasion. The devotees, moved by the sight, chanted “Jai Shri Ram” and “Har Har Mahadev” in unison.

“Heartiest greetings to all revered saints, Kalpvasis, and devotees who took a holy dip of faith in the holy confluence on the auspicious occasion of ‘Makar Sankranti’ at the grand confluence of faith, equality, and unity, ‘Mahakumbh-2025, Prayagraj,'” the Chief Minister shared in a post on X.

He added, “Today, on the first Amrit Snan festival, more than 3.50 crore revered saints and devotees earned the holy benefit of bathing in the uninterrupted-clean Triveni.” The CM also expressed gratitude to all Akharas, the Maha Kumbh Mela administration, and sanitation workers for their contributions to the event.

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26, with significant bathing dates including January 29 (Mauni Amavasya – Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami – Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).

Held every 12 years, this Maha Kumbh is expected to draw over 450 million devotees, culminating in grand celebrations on February 26.
